NTA in Japan ~ What is NTA (New Teachers Associations)

 NTANew Teachers Association

NTA (New Teacher’s Association) is a group for young teachers whose experience is not long enough yet has a strong wish to become a better educator by encouraging students to grow up, be mature, liberate themselves, comprehend culture, and more importantly, see the reality more critically and systematically. In this group, we are trying to help one another by sharing our idea on “what the real education is about” since we all work in different school. For instance, we hold a study meeting twice a month (usually weekend) reading materials related to education. After the meeting, we go out for lunch or dinner together so that we can continue sharing our experience as well as discussing on what we should work on for our students. Furthermore, we have a common work, holding a cultural forum for a youth at regular basis; we invite a lecturer from various specialized fields (e.g. scientist, writer, peace activist, scholar, journalist, etc.)
In Japan, teachers are obliged to work a long hour at school every day. Even on holidays (summer and winter vacations as well), we have to spend time for sport activity for students and some other school events. So, this NTA meeting is very important for all of our members because we can physically and mentally regain our energy keeping always in our minds that we want to be a humane teacher.
From the next entry on, we would like to write about some episodes that we are experiencing in each school. So please keep in touch!
